Canoeing and kayaking in the Tarn Gorges

La Barbote recommends that its customers discover the basics of canoeing and kayaking on a safe stretch of water before venturing into the Tarn Gorges.
There’s something for everyone here, from short canoe trips and descents to water games, sunbathing, picnics and naps in the shade.
Whether you’re young or old, a family, a group of friends or a group of students, come and train with us and then set off to conquer the Tarn on the various routes proposed by La Barbote below.
Everyone, whether accompanied or not, must be able to swim.
Calms tours
Canoeing and kayaking in the Tarn Gorges
You can take a picnic lunch with you in the heart of nature, where you can relax and unwind.
Process
You arrive 15 minutes before the start of the canoe or kayak trip down the Tarn.
We’ll fit you out and give you information about the route.
You set off on your descent down the Tarn towards Rivière sur Tarn, where a bus will pick you up at the agreed time.
Useful information
Minors must be accompanied by their legal guardians during the activity, or a contract signed by a responsible adult.
The minimum age for this activity is 5 years.
You must be able to swim and immerse yourself in the water.
Turbulent tours
Canoeing down the Tarn Gorges
This is the most turbulent descent of the Tarn Gorges. Combining natural beauty and rapids, it’s very popular with groups.
You’ll descend the Tarn Gorges at your own pace, laughter and splashing guaranteed!
At the end of the descent, we’ll take you by bus straight back to your vehicle.
Process
You arrive 15 minutes before the start of the canoe or kayak trip down the Tarn.
We’ll fit you out and give you information about the route.
Departure by bus from LA BARBOTE to LES VIGNES and off you go down the river.
The minimum age for this trip is 7 years old.
You must be able to swim
Bring water, sun cream, a small lunch or picnic and closed shoes.
The walking water route
over several days in the Gorges du Tarn
We can take you canoeing or kayaking along the Tarn Gorges over several days.
If you are planning a trip of two or more days, we can take you from LA MALENE or PRADES. There are campsites (e.g. Camping la Muse), gîtes and hotels at various stages.
The quality of the route makes it possible to bivouac, but please note that fires and unauthorised camping are prohibited for safety reasons and to protect the environment.
A 50-litre container is provided per person, and the Pas de Souci portage is predefined at the start.
You can arrive directly at La Barbote or 10 km downstream, for a total of 45 km to 55 km of hiking.
Full-day tours
Canoeing down the Tarn Gorges
For those with more stamina, the full-day route is ideal.
Start with an introductory course, then move on to the challenging descents of the Tarn Gorges.
A choice of two descents:
I. Les Vignes – Rivière sur Tarn for 20 km (canoe at 44 € for 2 people – kayak at 25 € for 1 people.)
A long, beautiful trip along the Tarn gorges awaits you.
An eventful start through the Tarn gorges and a calmer finish in the valley. Enjoy the peaceful countryside.
II. La Malène – La Barbote for 20 km (canoe €52 for 2 people – kayak €29 for 1 people)
This is the great classic, the most popular descent of the Tarn Gorges.
You’ll pass through some magnificent scenery before tumbling down the straits of the Gorges du Tarn and crossing the rapids.
It’s sure to be a memorable canoe trip!
Bus transport is provided for the Pas de Souci pass, which is impassable.
